Brendon is from South Africa and has been diving and researching sharks for over 20 years whilst achieving the highest qualifications in the scuba diving industry. Together with his wife Liz, Brendon created Shark Guardian to protect the mighty shark 🦈
We’ll be getting to know Brendon, discussing Shark Guardian’s work, and talking about the topic of ecotourism and how the tourism industry can protect sharks.

The time has finally come, and we’re insanely excited to be able to finally pull the covers off the big announcement we’ve been promising!

The SEA Nexus 🌌 (our vision for a unified global network of environmental monitoring) will be built on Algorand blockchain - it’s the greenest blockchain by far, not only in its energy efficiency (it is effectively carbon negative), but also in its support of sustainable projects.
In recognition of the groundbreaking potential of our project, the Algorand Foundation has awarded SEA a grant of $200,000.
To power the Nexus, we’re launching a new token on Algorand, VSEA. It will form the lifeblood of the SEA Nexus, flowing through the ecosystem, rewarding users, funding SEAstarter (www.seastarter.org) projects, and providing investors with excellent ROI with the feelgood factor of environmental impact.
This is NOT a token migration - SEA BSC is alive and well, and will continue to thrive on BSC. SEA BSC holders will be rewarded with an airdrop, staking rewards, and a (potentially lucrative) place on our alpha and beta programs.

This week's AMA features a very special guest - Alexis Grosskopf, co-founder and CEO of OceanHub Africa.
Oceanhub Africa is a massive organization offering a technology transfer support program promoting collaboration between researchers and entrepreneurs for science-based innovation.
OceanHub inspires and supports start-ups that strive to nurture the ocean environment, mitigating the effects of global warming as well as ocean pollution and has now funded more than $50,000 for tech development start-ups.
Supported by the South African French Embassy, the University of Cape Town and the V&A Waterfront, along with more than 50 stakeholders from multiple backgrounds, have co-created a roadmap to shape the future of a healthy ocean.
It's also the organisation responsible for organising the Ocean Innovation Africa conference, which is happening this week. We're dedicating this week's AMA to answering your questions regarding the roadmap and the future of $SEA. As you guys know, there's a lot of stuff going on that we can't talk about yet, simply because revealing information would jeopardise the success of the project. There are multiple parties involved, and some of them require information to be released in very specific ways, to very specific schedules. Breaking those rules would threaten the relationships, and therefore the project.
But we can be very open about some things — we can reveal our processes in organising the project, how we build and maintain the roadmap, how we decide what to prioritise, and why timelines change. We can talk about what we’re building, and to a large extent how it works.

For our 6th AMA, we’re continuing our efforts to reach out to the marine science community, so we’re thrilled to welcome diver, marine biologist, painter and activist Miriam Staiger. She has developed a number of different research projects from turtle monitoring to Environmental DNA (eDNA) research, and is currently involved in numerous campaigns, incl. with the Manta Trust, and the Stop Finning EU initiative to stop the shark fin trade in Europe. In her thesis with Sharklife Conservation Group in South Africa, she studied the movement patterns and fishing pressures on pregnant Spotted Raggedtooth sharks. She’s a passionate freediver and painter. Her stunning depictions of marine life are designed to inspire a love for the ocean, and they’re very effective! Miriam is also working on publishing her first children’s book, which, of course, is about a shark. So join in on Wed at 6pm UTC and stay tuned for the Twitter question contest!
