1. Degradation
Behind every good product there is a visionary who sets the direction for further development. You won't have to go far for examples β Ethereum has Buterin, Telegram has Durov, and Apple had Jobs, β after his resignation the company stopped taking risks and releasing innovative products, now the company is stagnating, despite its value.
We see a similar situation in Bitcoin: the lack of significant updates and a full-fledged development team. Enthusiasts are not rewarded in any way for their efforts, there is neither a development fund nor a program to support initiatives. All this leads to the fact that it's more interesting for developers to create products within other blockchains β and one of them is The Open Network.
2. Centralization
Another factor slowing down the development of large cryptocurrencies is the outdated PoW consensus β now it has become a big obstacle to scaling, as well as a reason for attacks from environmental activists and authorities in different countries.
The PoW algorithm also poses the greatest centralization risks. Industrial mining farms, just 5 of which already control most of Bitcoin network, will always be more vulnerable compared to hundreds and thousands of PoS validators that can be deployed on almost any device anywhere in the world, with minimal energy and maintenance costs.
TON blockchain was originally designed with PoS algorithm, and PoW mining is used here only as a method of initial emission distribution, which should be completed this summer.
3. Limitation
Furthermore, wrapped tokens are actively developing β so instead of using 10 different blockchains, you can transfer all coins to one fast and cheap blockchain, then send, receive and manage them in a single interface, paying fees in any coin, and if you wish, you can transfer coins back to the original blockchain. All this will become possible in TON in the near future, when the TON's extracurriencies and tokens service will be launched.
The market history is cyclical, and sooner or later the giants of the industry will retire, opening the way for new technologies. It's time for a new generation of blockchains.

TON Scan is the new explorer for TON network, which is now used as the default on ton.org website. You can start integrating it into your own services.

π Back in the day, billions of dollars were attracted and a large community was formed to support the blockchain of the Telegram team. The platform was supposed to become one of the largest projects at the time, but the plans were not meant to be, and in May 2020, under the conditions of the settlement agreement with The United States Securities and Exchange Commission, Telegram was forced to abandon the development of the project and transfer it to the community.
Now the network called The Open Network (TON) is a whole ecosystem that will unite other blockchains, apps and services to create the new, decentralized and open Internet.
The new TON has already begun integration into Telegram using different apps and bots like @CryptoBot, @wallet and others. Moreover, the project has even been supported by Pavel Durov, one of the founders of the TON blockchain.
Starting today, we will publish in this channel the main news, useful services and apps based on The Open Network.

π Telegram team are discontinuing support of the test network of the TON Blockchain. Team validators will be switched off not later than 1.08.2020. Please save all relevant data and terminate your testing process. If you need to continue testing after this date, you can install your own testnet validators as explained here, here and here.
The original TON development team is discontinuing its active involvement with the TON project due to reasons explained here. The efforts of the team have been redirected to other projects. Some of the internal development branches that have been in active development and testing may get integrated into the main branch. Some minor bugfixes and Github issue answers may occasionally appear if any of the members of the original team have the spare time and inclination to contribute to the community's efforts. The principal development of the TON code is transferred to the open source community.

The second stage of the blockchain contest starts today and will last until December 22.
The 41 winners of the first stage will be able to take part. The prize fund is $100,000 + additional $100,000 will be awarded subject to certain conditions.
The main goal is build one or two TON-based smart-contracts (decentralized services) that can become popular with consumers.
Criteria to identify the winners: 1) The validity and efficiency of your code 2) The potential demand for your service from a consumer standpoint.
Description: in Stage 1, you have proved that you know how to build smart-contracts on TON. This time you may choose any idea you like for your smart-contract - and implement it. You will retain the ownership over the decentralized projects resulting from this contest. You are also encouraged to launch your apps on TON mainnet once its live.
Your project should be decentralized and built with a TON-based smart-contract, but can also include off-chain elements if required. Each participant may submit a maximum of two projects.
Participants may request 5000 Test Grams from @test_ton_bot to test and develop their apps.

Original investors received emails from the Telegram core team.
1. Following a successful initial testing period, TON is planned to be launched in late October.
2. Investors are provided with the TON Key Generation Software: https://generator.ton.org
3. Investors will have to provide Telegram with the public key to receive their Grams by October 16th. This key will be confirmed using credentials provided in the Token Purchase Agreement.
4. The entire source code of TON is available at https://github.com/ton-blockchain/ton.
5. Investors have to select validators. Neither Telegram nor the TON Foundation will serve as validators post-launch.
