This way, they can confirm your assets are not from any negative activity.

RAILGUN is all on-chain smart contract logic. It lives on Ethereum, this means 2 things, 1. it's as secure as Ethereum (or whatever chain it's deployed on) and 2. you have access to all of the liquidity, apps, and devs on Ethereum. EVM and Ethereum are the most successful crypto ecosystems by like 50x and it's not even close. So, the idea is to privatize all of this activity.
Other privacy protocols will ask you to go off-chain. Either in a rollup or a separate blockchain. This raises a number of security questions. How safe is the bridge? Who is running the validator set? Will there be apps for me to use? RAILGUN has none of these questions.
It's a private address system meaning your UX is very similar to other wallets like MetaMask, you just have the option to make your transactions private. You can use all of the dApps you like as you normally would, just your actions are hidden. There's a special contract called the RelayAdapt contract which essentially acts as an interface with the wider world of DeFi. You can theoretically interact with any dApp you want from your RAILGUN balance, and this isn't something that other protocols have. If you name it and it's a smart contract, chances are you can use your RAILGUN balance with it.
Right now, there needs to be an integration built with what's called the Cookbook SDK for you to use a DeFi dApp. So far, you can do swaps, private vaults/yield with Beefy, and private liquidity provisioning. That's cool, but what's really cool is contributors are making progress on RAILGUN Connect which is a way to inject a RAILGUN integrated wallet into any dApp frontend and use it from your private balance. Think WalletConnect but for wallets that use RAILGUN. This will be a MASSIVE gamechanger and something that as far as I know, no other protocol has or might even never have. Once RAILGUN Connect is live you should in theory be able to use most DeFi apps with minimal friction, it will be comparable to using MetaMask or any other wallet, just with privacy. (There will be some limitations but the TLDR is that RAILGUN Connect will open way more smart contract interactions).
Since the start of May, the contracts have done over $83 million in volume, resulting in ~$200k in treasury fees which, as members of the Financial Elite you are already aware, gets sent out to $RAIL active governors.

It would be more accurate to say that he "shielded 100 eth to a RAILGUN private address" rather than "transferred to RAILGUN" which might make people think he sent it to the contract address or the DAO Treasury rather than shielding it into a 0zk address. π

It appears that RAIL has been added to Peapods Finance. For those that don't know, Peapods is a volatility farming protocol which helps create real yield arbitrage opportunities. Basically, the more volatile the RAIL price the more yield there is.

Perhaps you should also be as careful about where you are storing your Ether - use RAILGUN to keep your future private.
Vitalik is reducing eyeballs on his vitalik.eth ENS by moving some of the ETH into 0zk addresses, where they can no longer be seen by people that he doesn't choose.
